30 Years of musical adventures

In 1985 a group of musicians with a passion for chamber music formed the Utrecht String Quartet. During these three decades the Utrecht String Quartet has not wavered from  its mission of bringing  music of  unjustly forgotten  composers to a broader public, and with this expanding the landscape of music history. To celebrate this jubilee, the quartet presents three adventurous concerts in TivoliVredenburg's Hertz hall with three special guests.

For the first concert on Saturday evening, 10th  of October 2015 at 20.00, baritone Thomas Oliemans has chosen from the repertoire for baritone and string quartet Dover Beach by Samuel Barber and Notturno from Othmar Schoek. The Quartet will perform as well the famous Adagio from Barber en Capriccio op.81 from Mendelssohn.

The second concert is on Wednesday evening, 10th of February, 2016 starting at 20.00. For this concert the cello is given the leading role. Cellist Pieter Wispelwey has recently recorded with the Utrecht String Quartet the first String Quintet from Taneyev, op.14. During this concert the quintet can be heard live together with a string quintet by Boccherini.

The third and final concerto is on Sunday morning, 13th of March, 2016 starting at 11.00 am. Ralph van Raat performs with the quartet the Piano Quintet by Leo Ornstein. As if one would mix Scriabin, Debussy, Bartok and Prokofiev in a blender, resulting in a sparkling and remarkable cascade of music.  Besides this the quartet perform's Mossolov's  string quartet simultaneously with film excerpts they have found from Russian silent movies from the 1920's.
